Back in late February (I can't believe it's already been that long!) Jenn and I went on a glorious 10 day trip to the Caribbean! And when I say glorious, I mean GLORIOUS! Warm sun, sapphire blue water, and of course beautiful white sand beaches. What a perfect way to escape a wet and chilly Vancouver during the winter!
After a milk-run of a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico - from Vancouver via San Francisco and Washington, DC - we started our trip with two awesome days in San Juan. We took the $0.75 bus from our hotel - beat that, Vancouver public transit! - to Old San Juan, visiting two forts from Spanish colonial days and exploring the various historical sites in the area. There were plenty of guided tours going on and the usual 'tourist-trap' shops and activities available, but we explored the charming streets on our own with the help of our handy travel guidebook.
Then we boarded our Carnival cruise to the Southern Caribbean! If you've ever been on a cruise before, you'll surely remember the sensory overload of colours, patterns, and designs all over the ship. Here's what I mean:
The cruise was six days with five ports of call: St Thomas (in the US Virgin Islands), Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts, and St Maarten. This chain of islands is known as the Lesser Antilles, which stretches Southeast from Puerto Rico with the Caribbean Sea to the West and the Atlantic Ocean to the East.
